Mr. Garner is a veteran of more than 75 investment banking advisory assignments, including divestitures, equity and debt recapitalizations and other strategic advisory engagements. His industry experience covers a wide range of fields, including aerospace and defense, automotive and transportation, building products, consumer products, business and financial services, diversified manufacturing, plastics and retail.
At Edgeview, Mr. Garner has represented a wide variety of private equity groups, including American Capital Strategies, Citigroup Venture Capital, Fidelity Capital, H.I.G. Capital Management and The Riverside Company, and corporations that include Eaton Corp. and Johnson Controls, Inc.
A native of North Carolina, Mr. Garner earned a bachelor of arts degree magna cum laude in economics from Davidson College, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia.
Mr. Garner began his career with the corporate finance department of Merrill Lynch & Co. in New York, where he focused principally on coverage of industrial companies.
He later worked for Charlotte-based Bowles Hollowell Conner & Co. (BHC), one of the nation’s top middle-market investment banking firms, and became a partner in 1998.
When BHC was acquired by then-First Union Corp. (later Wachovia Securities) in 1998, Mr. Garner led its Automotive/Transportation group and later became the lead M&A banker responsible for coverage of private equity groups.
