Prior to joining Edgeview Partners, Mr. Bates served as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps and earned a master’s degree in business administration from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia.

During his service with the Marines, Mr. Bates led security missions during Operation Determined Response after the terrorist attack on the destroyer USS Cole in 2000. Mr. Bates later commanded infantry units during Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Before attending business school, Mr. Bates served as a weapons and tactics instructor at the Officer Basic School in Quantico, Va.

Mr. Bates earned a bachelor of arts degree in American history and a minor in French from the University of Virginia.
